Allison Hager

Hi, welcome to my homepage at CCC. Now that you're done laughing at my incredible picture, I will tell you a little bit about myself. I am a junior genetic engineering major with a minor in chemistry.

This past summer I participated in the Summer Research Internship Program at the University of Virginia (UVA). I worked in the Department of Chemistry under the direction of Dr. Felicia Etzkorn. my project was to characterize a chimeric mimic of bent DNA. During the summer of '95 I also interned in the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). I worked with albino mice usinf whole mount in situ hybridization for the LAMP protein (limbic-system associated membrane protein). I lived on the Busch Campus of Rutgers University.

Interests

In my spare time, I love to ride horses. I am co-captain of the CCC Equestrian Team and I am beginning to learn Western style riding. I attended the IASA National Horse Show in California last May. I also work as a veterinary technician and as a Research Assistant to Dr. Hale. I love to run and play basketball with Tracy.

Current Research Project

Title:Molecular analysis of genetically-distinct, J. lividum bacteriophages
My project is to isolate novel bacteriophages from the environment that infect the many isolates of J. lividum which have been used in studies of genetic diversity. After isolation, these phages will be characterized according to restriction patterns, plaque morphology, host range, and possibly through PCR and RAPD. Eventually these phages will be used in transduction studies to help us determine the frequency with which genes may be tranferred via transduction in the natural environment.
