The Dodo

Course Description

This course is an overview of the science of conservation and will cover 1) the nature of conservation biology and the definition, origin, and global patterns of biodiversity, 2) the threats to biodiversity, 3) how these threats effect the genetic and demographic processes of small populations, and 4) an introduction to the methods used to manage and restore biodiversity.

Thus, this course has been organized around five themes:

1. INTRODUCTION TO CONSERVATION BIOLOGY & THE BIODIVERSITY CRISIS

2. UNDERSTANDING BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY

3. THE BIODIVERSITY CRISIS

4. FOUNDATIONAL PARADIGMS OF CONSERVATION BIOLOGY

5. MANAGING AND RESTORING BIODIVERSITY
