Welcome to the Karnas Lab at Cedar Crest College!

The Biology Department at Cedar Crest College has an active research program that supports all its majors.  Dr. Joy Karnas is the director of the Genetic Engineering program, and conducts basic molecular biology research in her laboratory.  Research in this lab focuses on the production of lipoproteins, the particles that transport fat throughout your body.  We don't use humans as our models system, however.  Instead, we focus the bright green larvae that is a close relative of the bug that you often find destroying your tomato plants--the tobacco hornworm.
