Spring Break trip to the Galapagos!    Dr. John Cigliano organized a trip to the Galapagos Islands and Quito over Spring Break in March 2009. Here are a few photos from the trip. Of course, they don't do it justice.

Arrival on Santa Cruz.

Sarah. Meet giant tortoise. Giant tortoise...

A magnificent frigatebird.

A sea lion lounging on a rock on Seymour.

A pair of bluefooted boobies on Seymour.

An iguana on Seymour.

Daphne Major. Read The Beak of the Finch. [Toward the equator, the earth tilts to the right.]

A view of the Bartolome shore with the obligatory photograph of Pinnacle Rock.

For BIO 235 students: Santiago last erupted ~100 years ago, and the pioneer plants still dominate Bartolome.

Another obligatory photo from the top of Bartolome.

Here we are on Bartolome. Pinnacle Rock (obligatory) is to the left.

Bartolome = pioneer plants + cactus + lava + tourists.

Crabs. Meet iguana. Iguana...

This is a big sinkhole. If there are dinosaurs left on this planet, that's where they're hiding.

Penguins. On the equator. Right.

Kelsey proves it. There really is a line at the equator.

The president's palace in Quito.

The llama is a quadruped.

Cotopaxi, south of Quito, is the world's highest volcano.

A gorge in the Andes on the way to Otavalo.

The market in Otavalo. Compre.

An Andean condor at the Parque Condor Otavalo

Reina (bird). Meet Reyna (human)...
