What is Philosophy?

Philosophy is the oldest of all academic disciplines and that which links them them all together. The term "Philosophy" literally means "love of knowledge", and it is truly the wonder and joy of the process of trying to understand the world around us. In studying philosophy, one encounters the roots of all the other disciplines: the sciences, the arts, history, psychology and literature, among others. Philosophy asks the enduring questions: What is the nature of the world around us? Who are we? Is there any life beyond this one? How is it possible to know anything? What gives life meaning? What are the responsibilities and significance of being human?
