HIGHLIGHTS OF THE THEATRE CURRICULUM
EXPERIENCING THEATRE
The theatre major offers opportunities to
diversify a curriculum tailored to the individual student. Open
to all students at the college without prerequisite is a special
six credit course, "Experiencing Theatre: An Introduction."
This course combines Acting, Stagecraft, and Theatre History to
give the student a well-rounded understanding of the diversity
of the theatre as an art form. Throughout the semester, students
will participate in a production simulation from finding or writing
a play to actually seeing it produced onstage.
READING ROUNDTABLE
Offering a different topic each semester,
the faculty and students covene twice a semester to discuss the
selected era or playwright. Students make presentations to the
group based on plays and research prepared for the class. Any
student at the college may take the one credit Reading Roundtable
without prerequisite.
TOPICS IN ACTING
Students will have the opportunity to take
eight different courses in acting during their years at Cedar
Crest. Through rotating topics, students will explore different
aspects of acting including classical style, improvisation, and
more. Prerequisite is TSD 100.
TOPICS IN DESIGN
Students will have the opportunity to study
lighting, costume and set design, technical planning, fashion
history, property construction, scene painting, and rendering
through a series of rotating topics taught every semester. Prerequisite
is TSD 100.
