The primary goals of Cedar Crest College's Dance Company are to develop an appreciation for dance as an art form and to provide professional experiences, which emphasize performance and production enhancement. To promote the exploration of style and to accommodate students who wish to develop as dance artist, a variety of dance forms are taught, with emphasis placed on reinforcement of technical skill, strengthening of the individual's creative processes, and heightening recognition and appreciation for ensemble work. Workshops, guest teachers, and off campus experiences provide additional enrichment opportunities.
Members of the company are selected through the audition process.
A Company audition is held the first week of the fall semester
and is opened to the campus community. Upon acceptance a student
becomes a part of the ensemble classes which meet Mondays through
Thursdays from 4 p. m. to 6 p. m. during fall and spring semesters.
Besides the love of movement, a commitment to active participation
during fall and spring semesters is required.
TSD 252 Dance Company - Apprentice 1-3 credits
annually
Apprentice members are chosen because they demonstrate the potential
to acquire the technical skills and performance quality to function
as a full company member (TSD 253). Apprentice members will have
hands-on experience working within the ensemble as performers
and as understudies. Apprentice members meet with the full company
two days a week. To reinforce the technical growth of apprentice
members, the Dance Company's director will identify for each apprentice
member which two days she will be required to attend. To maintain
membership, apprentice company members are required to register
for one dance technique course per year. Membership in the Dance
Company is a two-semester commitment.
