Faculty Dance Concert
The faculty dance concert is presented at the end of the fall
semester and includes dances choreographed by dance faculty members
and guest artists.
Student Dance Concert
The student dance concert is presented
at the end of the spring semester. It provides the performance
setting for student choreographers to show their work. Participation
in the student concert is open to the college community (i.e.,
independent projects, movement class projects, and individual
and group initiatives), and requires individual motivation and
initiative for finding dancers, scheduling rehearsals, and providing
costumes. All choreographers interested in presenting a dance
must submit a dance proposal to the director of the student concert.
Dance proposals forms are distributed through the dance office.
If a student selects to choreograph for credit she must, as part
of her dance proposal, identify an advisor and seek formal independent
study credit. Choreography presented in the student concert is
selected through the adjudication process.
Alumnae Theatre Performing Arts Series
This monthly series of informal lunchtime
presentations provide the opportunity for students to share their
ideas and creative processes with a small intimate audience in
the Little Theatre of Alumnae Hall. Open to all performing arts
majors, the Performing Arts Series provides a perfect venue to
present new works, preview works in progress, experiment with
new ideas and interact with the audience. All dance majors are
required to present once each semester.
CMDance Experience
Catherine Mease, Class of 2000 established
CMDance Experience, as part of her senior dance project. The
emphasis for CMDance Experience is placed on stylistic training
and choreographic experimentation. CMDance Experience is a student
run Performance Company and is opened to the entire student body.
Informal Opportunities
Students are encouraged to think of the
campus and it's many places and spaces as possible venues for
performance opportunities. Remember that the results of your creative
process, your choreographic intention, can occur anywhere on campus.
Think broadly, expand your vision; where would you like to dance
or see movement happen on campus? Let us know.
Rehearsal space
Steinbright Dance Studio and Alumnae Dance
Studios are used for rehearsal spaces. A rehearsal space sheet
for both spaces is posted outside of the dance offices. Choreographers
must sign-up on a weekly basis. Reservation forms are also provided
and must be filled out and hand delivered to the College Center
Reservation Representative one week prior to rehearsal.
