The Writing Minor
While students who major in English may choose the Writing Concentration as the means to pursue a driving interest in expanding their writing knowledge and strengthening their skills, the Writing Minor provides an alternative for those who choose the Literature Concentration, the Secondary Education Co-Major, or the Evening English Major. The Writing Minor is also a valuable addition to a major in any other academic discipline.
Requirements for the Writing Minor (18 credits):
ENG 235: Topics in Nonfiction Writing is required for the minor.
In addition to ENG 235, choose 15 credits from among the following courses:
CST 180 Introduction to Journalism

ENG 200 Literary Analysis
ENG 233 Creative Writing: Fiction
ENG 234 Creative Writing: Poetry
ENG 333: Advanced Creative Writing: Fiction
ENG 334 Advanced Creative Writing: Poetry
ENG 335 Advanced Creative Writing: Nonfiction
FNA 103 Introduction to Fine Arts
MGT 300 Writing for Management

In addition to the permanent selections listed above, appropriate courses offered under special topics or other courses with the WRI2 designation may count for the minor, with the approval of the advisor for the minor.
You may also choose to complete a three-credit internship (department approval is required). You must also receive departmental approval to have a course count for the minor if the same course is also being used to fulfill another major or another minor. No more than two courses from your major may be used to satisfy the requirements for the Writing minor.
