Alumnae Mentor Program
The Alumnae Mentor Program is a carreer oriented program designed to help current Cedar Crest College students and recent graduates meet professionals in a variety of occupations and to learn valuable information about the real working world.  This program is not a job placement or recruiting service.  It is an opportunity for Mentors to share their knowledge and to assist students in linking their education to possible career options.  In addition, students will be exposed to many job search skills including networking and informational interviewing.  The willingness of the Mentor and Mentee to share their time is the key to the program's success.
To request an Alumnae Mentor, please stop by the Career Planning Office.

Career Counseling
Individual career counseling is available to assist students in relating information about themselves to specific occupations, to help with career decisions, the job search, and the graduate school application process.  To schedule an appointment with the Director of Career Planning, call ext 4648.

Career Planning Library
The Career Planning Library contains a large collection of resources on occupations, career planning, job/internship seraching, resume/cover letter writing, employment trends and salaries, specific employers, study abroad and graduate shcool programs.  computers are available for student use.  The Career Planning Office is located in the Allen House and is open from 8:30am-4:30pm Monday through Friday with extended hours on Wednesdays during the semester until 6:30pm.  No appointment is necessary to utilize the library materials.

Most materials can be signed out for a one week period and others are free for students to take with them.

Career Related Courses
Two one-credit courses are taught by the Career Planning Director.

For new students and sophomores, the "Exploring Your Future" offered each Fall, emphasizes the exploration of the self by identifying skills, values, interests, and goals to determine a major and its relationship to a career.

For juniors and seniors, "Launching Your Career Search", offered each spring, helps students prepare for the job market by focusing on decision-making and interview techniques, developing a resume and planning creative and successful job search strategies.

Credential Files
Students and graduates may have their letters of recommendation from faculty and employers kept on file in the Career Planning Office.  Students can obtain a personal copy of their file or can requrest that their Credential File contents be mailed to potential employers or graduate schools.  Pursuant to the Family Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, students are entitled to read the letters or recommendation in their files unless they have previously waived that right.

If you are interested in opening a Credential File, please contact the Career Planning Office.  There is no fee associated with opening a Credential File.

Copies of the Reference Statement Form, upon which your reference writers may submit their letters of reference, are available in the Career Planning Office.  Reference writers may also submit their letters of reference on their own letterhead.

If you anticipate asking the Career Planning Office to mail your Credential Files for you, please plan to make your request at least one week before you would like them mailed.  Requests may not be made over the phone and a completed and signed Request Form and check in the amount of $5.00 per mailing is required before a request will be processed.  In a situation where you absolutely must have next-day service, the Career Planning Office can mail your Credential Files via Priority Mail for a fee of $15.00 per mailing.  If you have any questions about this special service, please call our office, but don't forget, with an "open" file, you may always come into the Career Planning Office during our regular business hours and copy and mail your file yourslef.

Choosing/Changing Your Major

This interactive workshop is designed for students that are trying to figure out what major will be right for them.  It will provide guidance for those that have not yet chosen a course of study and will help those that are interested in changing to something different

Let the Career Fair Work for You
Wednesday, Feb 2 - 12-1pm and 6-7pm - Alcove A/TCC

This is the first in a series of workshops that will help students get ready for the upcoming Lehigh Valley Collegiate Career Expo.  All students anticipating a job search in the next year will be supplied valuable information that will allow them to maximize their experience at the job fair.

Resume/Cover Letter Writing Workshop
Thursday, Feb 10 - 12-1pm and 6-7pm - Alcove A/TCC

Designed with the entire student population in mind, it will discuss ways to start, improve on and update resumes and cover letters.  There will be something for everyone whether this is your very first resume or the next installmetn in a long work history.

Dress for Success Fashion Show
Wednesday, Feb 16 - 12:00pm - TCC Cafe

The do's and don'ts of dressing for the job interview.  We'll show you affordable fashions that will tell any employer that you mean business!

Career Planning on Tour
Thursday, Feb 17 - 6-7pm - Science Center Lobby

We're going on the road!  Stop by the Science Center Lobby to pick up valuable information on choosing/changing majors, job searching, internships, resume/cover letter writing, graduate school, studying abroad and much, much more!  We understand that you are busy and we're coming to you!  Ask a question and gain some valuable insights into how to achieve your goals!

How to Ace the Interview
Wednesday, Feb 23 - 12-1pm and 6-7pm - Alcove A/TCC

You don't get a second chance to make a good first impression.  We'll walk you through the "how tos" of the job/internship interview.  A Strong handshake, answers to those hard questions, situational interview and how to leave them wanting more!  If it's your first job interview or your tenth, you'll find something valuable at this session.

2005 Lehigh Valley Collegiate Career Expo
Wednesday, Mar 2 - 10am-5pm - Holiday Inn Fogelsville

Bring your newly updated resume and your professional, can do attitude and join over 100 employers at the fourth annual LVCCE.  Shuttles will be provided from the college for students interested in getting a jump on the job search.  There will be something for every major on campus, so mark your calendar!

Utilizing the Four Year Plan
Thursday, Mar 3 - 12-1pm and 6-7pm - Alcover A/TCC

Wondering how you're going to get a good job after college?  What about graduate school or studying abroad?  Need an internship but not sure when?  come to this informative workshop that will show you how to set your sights high and achieve your goals utilizing the four year plan from the Career Planning Office.  You don't have to be a frshman to benefit.  You don't even have to finish college in four years.  Check out this guide that will show you it's never too early to too late to get started!

Etiquette Luncheon
Wednesday, Mar 16 - 12-2pm - 1867 Room/TCC

What fork do you use for your salad?  What if there is no salad?!  This upbeat, enlightening meal will show you how to make the most of your dining interview.  Even if you have the best table manners possible, you will learn something new...guaranteed!  Sign up in the Career Planning Office and enjoy a lunch of good food, great company and information that you'll use wheterh your interviewing or just having lunch with your boss!

In today's job market, it is imperative that students gain practical work experience before they begin their professional job search.  Internships provide a great way to gain this experience and network with professionals already working in your chosen field.  This workshop will help students find the internship that will start them on the right career path.

Goal Setting

We all have goals that we want to achieve.  This workshop helps students organize their thoughts into concrete goals that they can begin striving to accomplish them.  Bring a piece of paper, a pencil and your dreams fo rthe future!  Not sure what you want to do?  We'll help you formulate that too!

Internship paperwork is due TODAY for all students intending on completing internships during the Summer or Fall of 2005.

Review Service
The Career Planning staff is available to review all career related materials.  Simply drop off or email your resume, cover letter, graduate school essays, etc. and then set up an appointment with the Career Planning Director to review suggesionts.

Mock Interviews

Mock interviewing is a program set up to help students prepare for job, internship or graduate school interviews.  Set up an appointment to develop and polish interviewing skills.  Sit down in an actual interview setting and answer those questions you know are going to be asked.  You'll receive feedback and suggestions on how to make sure you can nail that interview!

Internships

Most degrees at Cedar Crest College require an internship as a prerequisite to graduation.  Students have completed thousands of internships at sites all over the world.  An important part of the internship process is completing the necessary paperwork and making sure your position is right for your career goals.

Finding the right internship can be as easy as making a phone call or can take months of hard work.  It is important for students to follow the guidelines set forth by the College and to prepare themselves for the internship search.

The Career Planning Library has files on over 400 sites where previous Cedar Crest College students have successfully completed internshps.  Students can utilize this information at any time by visiting the Career Planning Office but they are not limited to completing an internship at one of these sites.

All students intending to complete an internship must visit the Career Planning Office to obtain the necessary paperwork.  Appointments are suggested and can be obtained by contacting the office in advance.  All paperwork must be completed and turned into the Career Planning Office BEFORE the internship begins.

The Caree Planning Library is host to much of the information students need when deciding wheterh or not to attend graduate school, study materials for entrance exams, course catalogs for schools all over the country, financial aid information, guides to writing personal statements, and anything else potential applicants need!

Study Abroad
