Employment Opportunities - Faculty

Effective January 2015, all new faculty and staff at Cedar Crest College must successfully complete a background check, including a Criminal History Report from the Pennsylvania State Police, a Child Abuse History Clearance from the Department of Human Services and a fingerprint based criminal history submitted through the FBI. Candidates selected for hire are expected to provide a complete Child Abuse Clearance and FBI Clearance prior to beginning employment.

Spanish
Half Time Faculty Position

Applications are invited for a half time faculty position in Spanish; the position will begin in January 2016. Responsibilities will include teaching a 2-2 course load, advising students in the program, and assisting the department chair with program oversight. Courses will include introductory and advanced Spanish language and composition courses, as well as topics courses in Spanish and/or Hispanic literature, and applied language courses for a variety of workplace settings; the range of topical and applied courses will depend upon the qualifications and interests of the instructor. 

Master's degree or other terminal degree and fluency in Spanish are required. Prior experience teaching at the college level is strongly preferred.

MBA Program
Adjunct Faculty

Applications are invited for adjunct faculty to teach graduate courses on campus in one or more of the following business subjects: Critical/Analytical Thinking, Ethics & Governance, Economic Analysis, and Negotiation. Classes begin in Fall 2015 and will also be held in Winter 2015/16. Candidates must be able to demonstrate teaching excellence in an environment that is dedicated to providing a learning experience that imparts knowledge, competencies and skills for advancing students’ careers in their chosen field or entrepreneurial ventures. Ideal candidates will be student oriented and able to integrate current events and technology into the learning environment. Faculty are required to hold office hours, one hour for each class meeting.

Minimum qualifications: MBA or other relevant master’s degree required; Doctorate in business or related discipline preferred. Five years of business experience and teaching or training experience also required.

New Media/Communication
Assistant Professor
Full Time, Non-Tenure Track Position

Applications are invited for a full time Assistant Professor in the field of Communication, specifically in New Media Studies and Production. Courses to be taught include Global Issues in New Media, Women in Digital Culture, as well as a select number of production courses including animation and video production.  The Communication Department at Cedar Crest College is dedicated to a student curriculum that teaches ethical professional practice and critical analysis of communication texts; therefore, a commitment to cultural studies and/or critical pedagogy is required.  

Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. required; A.B.D applicant will be considered. Preference will also be given to candidates who have an interest in digital art, photography, and/or the digital humanities.

Nursing Clinical Faculty - Adjunct

Are you a Master’s prepared registered nurse (MSN) with experience and expertise in a clinical specialty such as psych, community health, med-surg or maternal/child health? Conference Services Coordinator

Cedar Crest College has an exciting opportunity for customer focused individual to serve as Conference Services Coordinator in our Student Center and on our beautiful 84-acre campus. The Coordinator is responsible for marketing campus facilities, scheduling and planning events and providing on-site support for internal and external groups on campus. This includes effective scheduling, appropriate technical assistance, and working collaboratively with other departments to maximize customer satisfaction. The Coordinator also provides supervision to student workers. Evening and weekend hours are required.

Bachelor’s degree in business, hospitality management or related field is required. Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills, along with a proven capacity for working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment are also necessary for success. Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment and solid knowledge of applicable technology and systems are also required. Prior experience in conference management within higher education is strongly preferred.

Our scenic campus, a registered national arboretum, is located in the Lehigh Valley in eastern Pennsylvania, conveniently located between Philadelphia and New York City.

ESL Specialist

The College is seeking a full time ESL Specialist, who will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide support and services for international students and other English Language Learners. The ESL Specialist will develop a comprehensive ESL curriculum for Cedar Crest and provide direct instruction of a variety of courses for English Language Learners. The ESL Specialist will assist with coordinating academic support for international and other English Language Learners. The ESL Specialist will also collaborate with Academic Services, Student Affairs and Faculty to design and offer programming to facilitate the integration of international students into the United States and the college community. The ESL Specialist reports to the Director of Student Success and Retention.

A Master’s Degree in TESOL or a related field is required as is a minimum of three years of experience with creating instruction to meet the needs of a diverse population, especially international students. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal sensitively and effectively with students from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, along with strong organizational and collaboration skills. Some evening and weekend work is required in this role.

Coordinator of Writing and Learning Support Resources

Cedar Crest College is seeking a Coordinator of Writing and Learning Support Resources, who will serve as a member of Academic Services and ensure the provision of high-quality learning support resources for students. The Coordinator will direct all functions of the Writing Center and provide individual tutoring in writing for students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, the Coordinator will provide oversight and coordination of other learning support resources offered by Academic Services, especially in peer tutoring and instructional assistants, and assist with the development of new learning support programs and resources. The Coordinator of Writing and Learning Support Resources reports to the Director of Student Success and Retention.

A Master’s degree in English, Writing, or other related subject is required. At least three years related experience in higher education is required, with significant experience providing writing instruction to students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will also have experience successfully coordinating student support resources and supervising student or professional staff. Strong and effective communication, leadership, organizational, interpersonal and customer service skills are critical to the position. Some evening and weekend work is required in this role.

Reference Assistant
Weekend Part Time
Cressman Library, Cedar Crest College

Cressman Library at Cedar Crest College is seeking a part time Reference Assistant to provide assistance using and teaching print and online library resources, supervising student assistants, compiling statistics, and monitoring other library services. During the academic year, the hours are 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM Saturday and Sunday 12 noon – 9:00 PM. Some summer hours are available.

The successful candidate must have at least an Associate’s degree in an applicable field as well as exceptional customer service, communication and organizational skills. Proficiency with applicable technology, including use of the Internet, word processing and spreadsheet software is required. Prior experience in reference services is preferred.

Executive Director for Professional Development

Cedar Crest College has an exciting opportunity for a motivated, dynamic and innovative leader to serve as Executive Director for Professional Development. The Executive Director will provide strategic vision and leadership to career development programs including the creation and development of new networking, mentoring, internship and employment opportunities for students, alumnae and the community. The Executive Director will work to strengthen existing partnerships and to develop and establish new relationships with employers and experts from all industries to provide a wide variety of options for students, graduates and the community. Advancing professional development and employment programs in a liberal arts setting with an emphasis on women’s leadership will be a major area of focus for the Executive Director. As leader of a comprehensive professional development program, the Executive Director will oversee Career Services, Community Services, New Student Programs and the Women’s Leadership Institute.

A master’s degree is required, along with at least four years of leadership experience in professional development, including career services. Candidates must have a proven track record of success with establishing effective employment and networking opportunities for students and graduates. In addition, candidates must be able to work collaboratively with students, faculty, administrative staff and external constituents. Transfer Coordinator

The Admissions Office at Cedar Crest College is seeking a results-oriented, energetic, full time Transfer Coordinator with a commitment to providing quality service. Responsibilities include assuring high quality service to transfer applicants from recruitment to enrollment by coordinating recruitment efforts, application processing, transcript evaluation, articulation agreements, registration and orientation activities. The Transfer Coordinator will also communicate with and counsel potential students regarding admissions criteria, scholarships, financial aid and programs of study. Significant travel, including overnight, is required. Evening and weekend hours are expected.

A Bachelor’s degree and at least one year of experience in transfer admissions recruiting, preferably in a private college setting, required; community college enrollment management experience will be considered. Strong communication, organizational and analytical skills are essential, as is the ability to effectively relate to students and families. Candidates must also have prior experience in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated effective recruiting, decision-making and problem-solving skills. A working knowledge of applicable technology, including Microsoft Office and Jenzabar is desirable. A valid driver’s license is required.

Campus Police Opportunities

Part Time Dispatcher/Switchboard: Do you have prior dispatch/switchboard experience with an interest in law enforcement? If so, consider the opportunity to join our team to answer and redirect calls, monitor radio and surveillance systems, monitor alarm systems, dispatch officers, contact appropriate off-campus emergency response personnel as necessary, maintain confidentiality and other duties to keep our campus and students safe. The successful candidate will have prior experience in dispatch/switchboard operations or law enforcement coupled with excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to communicate and function well in stressful situations. A high school diploma (or equivalent) is required. Position requires a background check, including criminal history, drug screening and a psychological evaluation. Candidates should be flexible with scheduling and may be required to work various shifts and weekends, based upon staffing needs.

Multicultural Center Graduate Assistant
Part Time

Cedar Crest College is seeking an energetic graduate student with a passion for multicultural education, ALANA and LGBTQIA issues. The Multicultural Center GA will work to facilitate student learning about self and diverse others by planning engaging programs, meeting with students, supporting student organizations, promoting leadership development, and helping to build community among students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds. The GA is also responsible for working with members of the multicultural team in the development and operation of the Multicultural Center and report directly to the Director of New Student Programs. The position is funded for two years at 20 hours per week and includes furnished room with air conditioner, cable, internet and free, semi-private laundry facilities. Free parking, free access to fitness and aquatic center activities and regional networking opportunities also complement this position!

Applicants must be Master’s degree candidates in student affairs in higher education or a closely related field. The successful candidate will have demonstrated commitment to diversity, cultural awareness, and social inclusion as well as a solid understanding of underrepresented college experiences in higher education. Strong problem solving and research skills are essential, as are excellent organizational, collaboration and communication skills. Prior experience in working with college students and programming is preferred, in addition to the ability to successfully facilitate workshops on a variety of topics. Preventative Maintenance Mechanic

Cedar Crest College seeks a Preventative Maintenance Mechanic for our campus community. This position will work from both verbal and written instructions, diagrams, drawings and manuals to troubleshoot and repair various mechanical systems and associated equipment throughout college owned buildings. The PM Mechanic is responsible for performing work under the college’s preventative maintenance system, which includes working in a team effort to collect equipment information and enter it into the system that will schedule and print-out preventative maintenance work orders. The successful candidate will have five years of experience in the trade, be able to work independently and collaboratively and have excellent customer service skills with a commitment to assuring the best possible environment for education and student living. HVAC Universal Certification desired. Successful completion of an applicable investigative background check is required. This position is considered essential personnel for the campus and will be required to assist during College closures, emergencies and other scheduled and unscheduled events.

Aquatic Fitness Instructors

The Rodale Aquatic Center for Civic Health at Cedar Crest College seeks highly motivated, energetic and enthusiastic individuals to teach aquatic fitness classes to a diverse population of students. Previous experience instructing aquatic or land fitness classes preferred; will train candidates in the use of new equipment and techniques AEA or Arthritis Foundation certification also preferred. Part-time openings exist for both morning and evening classes.
