FT Tenure Track Position in Education

The Education Department of Cedar Crest College invites qualified applicants to apply for one full-time, tenure track position in Education to start in the fall of 2008.  The successful candidate will be required to perform all duties associated with teaching at the college level including advising at the undergraduate and graduate level, teaching evening and/or weekend courses, engaging in research and scholarly endeavors, supervising student teachers, and participating in service to the college, the discipline, and local educational community.  The successful candidate should be prepared to teach a graduate research methods course and be familiar with K-12 mathematics and science content and pedagogy. The ideal candidate will have an earned doctorate in education and a proven record of excellence in teaching in elementary or secondary classrooms in the public school setting.  Candidates who are ABD will be considered if all degree requirements will be completed by August 31, 2009.

Assistant Professor of Biochemistry

The Department of Chemical and Physical Sciences of Cedar Crest College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in January, 2009.  The preferred candidate must hold a Ph.D. in biochemistry or chemistry, with a demonstrated concentration in the area of biochemistry.  The teaching assignments will include both lecture and laboratory courses in biochemistry, non-majors chemistry, and nutritional biochemistry.  The successful candidate must be committed to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level and will be expected to actively engage in research with undergraduate students.  The candidate will also be expected to participate in student advising, faculty governance, service to the college and community service, as well as pursue scholarly achievement appropriate for an undergraduate college.

Full-Time and Part-Time Assistant Professors for Nutrition

The Nutrition Department of Cedar Crest College has openings for Full-time and Part-time Assistant Professors. Successful candidates will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in basic nutrition, nutrition counseling, advanced nutrition metabolism and medical nutrition therapy, as well as student advising and grant writing. Coordination and participation in outreach programming will be essential.  Participation in academic and professional service activities commensurate with faculty membership is essential. Applicants should have current RD status; Master’s degree in Nutrition required/Doctoral degree preferred; Minimum 4 years of Full-time experience in dietetics in community/healthcare settings; previous teaching experience at baccalaureate level required.

Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Professor of Psychology 

A growing and innovative Psychology Department at Cedar Crest College seeks applications for a full-time, tenure track position beginning Fall 2008.  Applicant should have a Ph.D. in Psychology with a broad background and ability to teach a variety of courses. Candidate’s area of interest and specialization is open. Previous teaching experience is preferred. Special consideration will be given for previous experience teaching a lab course in Learning. Teaching will require a 4:4 load and will include some evenings and weekends. Nursing Faculty

The Nursing Department has openings for FT and Adjunct faculty with pediatric or med surg expertise.  The College offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.  A Master's degree in nursing required. Preference will be given to candidates with Doctoral degrees. Resident Life Coordinator/Coordinator of Diversity Programs

Graphic Designer

PACC-Vista Community Service Coordinator

The PACC-VISTA Community Service Coordinator is a 12-month, full time, live-in position in the Student Affairs Division.  Primary responsibilities include the planning and implementation of programs that address the needs of low-income communities in the Lehigh Valley and promoting volunteer opportunities for the students of the college community.  Cedar Crest College is a private, women’s college in Allentown, PA.  Essential job functions:  Recruit, train, and support America Reads tutors; mentor tutors and review lesson plans and journals to measure the success rates of tutoring efforts;  serve as liaison between Allentown School District and Cedar Crest College Lutz Center for Community Service; supervise Community Service Coordinators working with children of low income families; create mentoring programs linking students, faculty and staff with the Allentown School District; evaluate success rates of student volunteer efforts; assess current partnerships, programs and volunteer needs that Cedar Crest College has with local community agencies; serve as a liaison between area agencies and Cedar Crest College Lutz Center for Community Service; attend Student Affairs Division staff meetings.  Marginal job functions: Assist with classroom and site orientations; assist with site evaluations; provide support for service-learning initiatives as assigned by the Director; assist with planning Alternative Spring Break; assist with National Volunteer Week, National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week activities.  Requirements for this position includes: Experience and interest in community service; Bachelor’s degree required; ability to communicate orally and in writing, using the English language; ability to facilitate training workshops on variety of topics;  ability/willingness to work extended hours on evenings and weekends; use a computer, keyboard and printer to produce printed materials as necessary; work extended hours on evenings and weekends; work under pressure in a very fast paced environment;  ability to drive, walk several flights of stairs, and/or attend meetings in other buildings located on or off-campus; ability and willingness to travel off-campus to attend meetings and visit agencies. Compensation:  Furnished room and board; Monthly allowance of approximately $865 (CNCS pays this cost); Health insurance coverage (CNCS pays this cost); $4,725 education award or $1,200 cash stipend (member’s choice) upon completion of term of service.

AmeriCorps*VISTA General Information

AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) is a national service program that, for more than 40 years, has been in the forefront of helping communities to help themselves fight poverty.  VISTA members devote a year or more of their lives to challenge poverty’s root causes.  They do this by mobilizing community volunteers and local resources, and by increasing the capacity of people in low-income communities to rely on themselves.  AmeriCorps*VISTA is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) which has identified four cross-program priorities to focus on over the five years from 2006 to 2010: Mobilizing More Volunteers; Ensuring a Brighter Future for All of America’s Youth; Engaging Students in Communities; Harnessing Baby Boomers’ Experience.  Within these CNCS priority areas, PACC- VISTA members work to build campus-community collaboration with regard to the following 08-09 VISTA Priorities and Strategic Initiatives Financial Asset Development, Mentoring Fostered Youth, Ex-Offender and Families’ Re-entry, Rural Community Development, Tribal Community Development, Immigrant Community Development, Engaging Students In Service, Disaster Preparedness and/or Relief and Recovery, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.  Because these positions are designed to build capacity, VISTA members may not participate in direct service to the community.

Leadership Gifts Officer

Cedar Crest College seeks a Leadership Gifts Officer who will be primarily responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding potential major donors.  This position reports to and work closely with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and other colleagues in devising a strategy for identifying individual major gift prospects, to strengthen their relationships with the College, to organize gift solicitations, to continue stewardship, and to implement approved plans in coordination with the Alumnae Relations program.  Collaborate with colleagues to ensure updating and maintenance of appropriate records and databases.

Lifeguard Position 

The Rodale Aquatic Center for Civic Health at Cedar Crest College seeks candidates for Lifeguard positions to work various hours between 6:00 am and 9:00 pm, Monday through Saturday beginning immediately.  Qualifications include a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate, CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certificate and First Aid Certificate or equivalent.  Candidates will be required to successfully complete a skills test to demonstrate proficiency.  Recertifications available.  Starting wages are based on experience.
