The Office of Information Technology will provide quality information technology services, in the most cost-effective manner, to facilitate the College’s mission and strategic plan as it applies to teaching and learning. It will provide innovative assistance and leadership in IT matters to all parts of the College in the achievement of their goals and objectives. To accomplish this mission, Information Technology works collaboratively with the campus community to provide technological leadership.

Assistance is available in the following areas:
All students are assigned a network and email account for the duration of their attendance at Cedar Crest College. These accounts are free of charge. Students are expected to be familiar with, and apply student handbook guidelines as they apply to computer usage.
All residence halls are connected to the campus Ethernet network. If you encounter any technical problems after you have connected your computer in your room, please contact the Information Technology Help Desk (ext. 3348).They will assist you in diagnosing the problem.
All currently-enrolled students have free use of the computer labs. Lab computers have full access to the campus network, the Internet, and email. The Lab Consultant Desk is staffed by student workers. The student lab consultants, based in BHA Room 7 (Blaney Hall), are the first line of help for students who encounter problems with software or hardware and can be reached by phone extension HELP (4357) or email (helpdesk@cedarcrest.edu). Student lab consultants can answer questions about network software applications and respond to general computer problems. Each residence hall computer lab has one student lab consultant (whose name and phone number are posted in the lab) assigned to it.
Information Technology Student Consultants offer a 60-minute
tutorial session on several subjects to all students, free of
charge.
All students must request a time to meet with one of the 3rd-Level
tutors. Sessions are limited to 10 per week, so it is essential
to schedule your session as soon as possible to guarantee a
time. To request a session, simply email Consultant@cedarcrest.edu.

IT assists students with connecttivity issues in their rooms. There is no network connection available for students who live off-campus at this time. Our office does provide limited support for student-owned pcs that are not covered under a manufacturer's warranty. We charge $35/hr with a minimum one hour's charge. Our office will not support any machine with Windows 98 or older.
Many problems reported to Information Technology arise from unfamiliarity with the features and proper use of software. Students are urged to take advantage of the many free computer training workshops offered throughout the year at Cedar Crest in a wide range of software application subjects. New students should be sure to attend one of the many Introduction to Computing at Cedar Crest sessions offered. Look for announcements of these in This Week on the Crest.
Please note: Hardware failure or the installation of conflicting software programs can affect the proper function of your computer with the network. In these cases, reconfiguration may be required. The best course of action before making any significant changes to your computer, including software installation, is to call the Information Technology Help Desk at (610) 606-4666 ext. 3348. Cost for performing reconfiguration on any computer is $35 per hour, minimum one hour.
Information Technology provides FREE Symantec AntiVirus software to all current Cedar Crest students and employees. Both resident and commuter students can come to the IT office in Curtis Hall Room 136 to pick up a cd. Please Note: This software is offered as a courtesy. Installation and support of the product is not provided by Information Technology. Students are still responsible for updating their own virus definitions.
Audio Visual equipment required for student assignments or projects must be requested through the class instructor or group advisor. However, Cedar Crest students may check out camcorders, tripods, and cassette players from the Audio Visual Services department to be used for classroom or student organization projects. Students must call Audio Visual Services in advance and arrange for a pickup and drop off time. To ensure equipment availability, make reservations at least 7 days in advance.
