Alumnae Hall Painting Studio
The Art Department
maintains several large studios: a large ceramics studio
with outdoor kilns; a painting studio with a full-length
skylight for natural, indirect light; a drawing and design
studio with model and still life stands; a large sculpture
studio and shop; two complete metalsmithing facilities with
independent work stations and foundry capabilities; and a
well equipped printmaking studio with a large Charles Brand
press for monotype and intaglio work, as well as bookbinding
and book arts facilities. Throughout the semester students
exhibit their work in the student galleries located in Alumnae
Hall. To foster student independence and creative exploration,
individual private studios are available for advanced art
majors. Additionally, each studio major hangs a graduating
senior thesis exhibition of her work in the college Gallery
in Tompkins College Center.

Alumnae Hall Sculpture StudioThe
Cedar Crest Art Department is also embracing technological
innovations that aid in creating compelling images and studying
great works of art. The Multimedia Development Lab is available
for student use; this computer resource center includes high-end
hardware and software, placing in the student's hands the
most recent programs for digital image creation and manipulation.
In addition, the campus network connection to the Internet
connects students to works of art in major museums throughout
the world, to the growing number of artworks creating specifically
for the World-Wide Web, and to the rapidly expanding resources
in Art History. Many courses in the Art Department make
use of these art resources readily available on the Internet.
