Future Employment Possibilities

The Biochemistry program trains students for immediate entry into lab positions in the private and public sector. Biochemists are employed in the biomedical, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, agricultural research, and chemical industries. In addition, university affiliated laboratories, hospital labs, and government research facilities provide employment opportunities for biochemists with a B.S. degree. Many students will also pursue advanced degrees in biochemistry or related fields. Past graduates have obtained full graduate fellowships at Princeton University, The Pennsylvania State University, University of Pennsylvania, Lehigh University, Texas Tech University, and Washington University in St. Louis. Other students have gained entry into medical, dental, and veterinary schools.

Here are just some of the organizations that graduates are employed in, followed with an area of expertise:

  • Guthrie Medical Research Institute, research scientist
  • Lucent technologies, analytical division
  • Roche Vitamins, laboratory technician
  • Parke-Davis/Warner-Lambert, pharmaceutical research
  • Eli Lilly, drug design
  • Merck Sharp and Dohme, enzymology
  • Merck Sharp and Dohme, pharmaceutical evaluation
