LaboratoriesStudent research and laboratory coursework are performed in a variety of laboratories available to students in the forensic science program. In January 2005, two brand new state-of-art laboratories were opened. In addition to existing crime scene reconstruction and forensic science research laboratories, students in the forensic science program have more than adequate laboratory space for coursework and research.
Equipment
Students in the forensic science concentration can expect to learn about and use a great deal of the instrumentation applicable to forensic analysis. Among the instruments that students will use during coursework or research include:
Agilent Technologies 6890N Network Gas Chromatograph System/5973 Network Mass Selective Detector Applied Biosystems 310 Capillary Electrophoresis Genetic Analyzer Applied Biosystems 377 Gel Electrophoresis DNA Sequencer Beckman Coulter DU 800 Spectrophotometer BioRad ImmunoWash Model 1575 BioRad Microplate Reader Model 680 Buck Scientific ACCUSYS 211 Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer Buck Scientific BLC-20 High Performance Liquid Chromatograph Buck Scientific 310 Gas Chromatograph CDS Pyroprobe 5000 Corbett Rotor-Gene 6000 Real-Time Rotary Analyzer Cecil 2041 UV/Vis Spectrophotometer Unicam Helios Alpha UV/Vis Spectrophotometer Fisher Scientific Stereomaster Microscopes Hewlett Packard 5890A Gas Chromatograph Hewlett Packard 5995A Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer Leica DMEP Polarizing Light Microscopes Leica DM1000 Fluorescent Light Microscope Nicolet Impact 410 FTIR Perkin Elmer 480 DNA Thermal Cycler Perkin Elmer 1600 Series FTIR Perkin Elmer 2700 DNA Thermal Cycler SensIR IlluminatIR(micro-FTIR) Sirchie Electrostatic Dust Print Lifter Turner Quantech Digital Filter Fluorometer Varian EM-390, 90-mHz, CW Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer Waters 480 High Performance Liquid Chromatograph
