Applied and Professional Ethics Minor Requirements

Philosophy Minor Requirements

Two minors are offered in the study of philosophy each complementing a different aspect of the Cedar Crest College education. The traditional minor in philosophy allows students to explore the fundamental questions of human existence and to engage in a variety of cross-disciplinary dialogues.

A perfect complement to majors in many of the traditional liberal arts disciplines, such as English, history, political science and psychology, the philosophy minor is excellent preparation for graduate study or law school. The minor in Applied and Professional Ethics is a valuable complement to any pre-professional course of study, such as business, pre-law, education, pre-med, nursing, journalism, and computer science.

Philosophy Minor

The Philosophy Minor is intended to provide students with a solid understanding of the history and development, as well as the major theories and schools of thought, of Western philosophy. It also seeks to provide students with a good understanding of the place in philosophy in the context of the liberal arts disciplines, especially in exploring the connection between philosophy and the students’ major fields of study. It also will improve students’ thinking, reasoning and communication skills.

Applied and Professional Ethics Minor

Professions as diverse as law, business, medicine, nursing, and teaching are increasingly requiring their practitioners to have on-going education and training in ethics. The minor in Applied and Professional Ethics is designed to give students a foundation in theoretical ethics, professional ethics, and the application of ethical theory to a variety of practices and professions. It is intended to give students a broad acquaintance with the principles of professional ethics across several professions, but, in consultation with the Program Director, can also be tailored to give a student a deeper understanding of one particular profession.
