Study Abroad
Study Abroad: There is no substitute for the Study Abroad Experience. Such trips broaden the students' outlook on the world in incalculable ways. In the past five years, students have traveled to Turks & Caicos in the Caribbean with Catherine Cameron; and to Egypt and India with Dr. Allen Richardson Cedar Crest is an Affiliate of the School for Field Studies, with programs in Australia, Mexico, Kenya, Costa Rico, and Turks & Caicos. Students may also elect to find their own Study Abroad experiences. For example, Nicole Fox, as a junior anthropology major traveled to Kenya for one semester in 2007 and used Study Abroad financial aid.
E. Allen Richardson has led two Study Abroad trips to Egypt (2008) and India (2009) and plans another trip to Egypt in 2010. Students have been enthusiastic participants in these trips, calling them "life-changing" events.
The trips are about 10 days in length and come as a package for flight, hotels, most meals, and tours. Both are held biennially: Egypt every other January and India every other spring break week in March. If desired, the trips may be done for course credit: the Egypt trip can earn one credit for travel only or can be linked to Rel. 101 (Ancient Egyptian Religions- 3 credits) and India to Rel. 226 (Hinduism - 3 credits). Egypt & India. Dr. Allen Richardson has begun a regular Study Abroad program in Egypt and India. The next one is in January 2010 in Egypt. Students get to tour sites and cities with expert tour guides and stay in comfortable accommodation. The travel is usually incorporated into a course offering so that students can get course credit for their trip and assignments.
